Occupation Description

Library technicians support librarians by helping visitors in the use of library catalogs, databases, and indexes to locate materials as requested and by answering inquiries that necessitate only brief conference of typical reference. They also collect records; sort and shelve books and items and check resources in and out of the circulation process. They are also tasked with the removal or repair of damaged books or other media and regularly register clients. They often replace materials in shelving area or files. Bookmobile drivers who assist with providing amenities in mobile libraries are included in this job title.
